INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
Germany is a European country which is situated in the west central part of the Europe. It is also known as Federal Republic of Germany. The local name of the country is "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" and local short name is "Deutschland". It is surrounded by Denmark in north, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and France in west, Czech Republic and Poland in east and Switzerland and Austria in south.
The capital of the Germany is Berlin which is also the largest city of Germany. The total territory area of Germany is 357021 sq. km. The geographical situation of Germany lies between Polar Regions and tropics so the climate of the Germany is temperate seasonal i.e. the weather changes between summer and winter are not very strong but the climate is unpredictable.
During 16th century, it was the center of Protestant Reformation. Germany is a Federal Parliament Republic having sixteen states. The modern Germany was unified in 1871 during Franco-Prussian war. But after world-war second it was divided into two parts in 1949 in Eastern and Western Germany divided by the Berlin wall. The two parts of the Germany again combined together on 3rd Oct 1990. Germany is also a member of Euro-zone and European Union since 1999. Its population is more than 82 millions so it one of the largest country of Europe and largest among the European Union countries. It has the second largest population in Europe after European Russia and it is seventh largest country in Europe according to area. It has the largest economy of the Europe and the third largest economy in the world.
Germany is a member of United Nations, G-8, G-4 and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and it has already signed the Kyoto Protocol which is related to control climate changes and reducing greenhouse gases. In nominal GDP (Gross Domestic Product), it is the third largest economy of the world. In military expenditure, it is at the sixth position in the world. It is the world’s largest exporter of various types of goods. It is at number third in the total number of international migrants living in it. It is one of leaders in various fields of science and technology. The citizens of Germany have a high standard of living the government provides them high level of social security.
There are total sixteen cities in Germany which are Bamberg, Berlin, Cologne, Dresden, Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Munich, Munster, Regensburg, Stuttgart. The major cities of Germany are Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart etc. The main language of the Germany is German. The old currency of Germany was Deutsche Mark (DM) before 2002 but after that it is replaced by Euro where 1 Euro is equal to 1.95583 DM.
