Hamburg:
It is the second largest city of the Germany. The international trade city Hamburg is like a culture and commercial type of center of the Northern Germany. Even the canals in the Hamburg are crossed by over the approximately 2300 bridges which are more than combined with the Venice (400) and Amsterdam (1200). In the Hamburg, there are also five churches which are covered with the green copper plates like St. Michaeliskirche (Saint Michael's Church, nicknamed "Michel"), St.Nikolaikirche (Saint Nicholas Church memorial), St. Petrikirche (Saint Peter's Church, 11th century), St. Jacobikirche (Saint Jacob's Church 13th century), St. Katharinenkirche (Saint Catherine's Church, 14th century). It is one of the largest ports of the world at number nine and it is one of the largest cities of the European Union. Hamburg is situated at the point of junction of three rivers Elbe, Alster and Bille.
Baden-Wurttemberg: It is situated in south-west part of the country near Rhine and Danube River. It is third largest state of the country with Stuttgart its capital.
Bavaria (Bayern): The capital of Bavaria is Munich. It is situated in the south part of Germany and is the biggest state of the Germany in area. It is called Free State of Bavaria.
Brandenburg: Brandenburg was included into the states of Germany in 1990 after the union of East Germany and West Germany. It is situated in the east of Germany. The capital of Brandenburg is Potsdam.
Bremen: It is the smallest state of Germany. The state of Bremen is divided into two parts; one is the capital of Bremen State and the other is Bremerhaven. Both these two cities lie at the bank or river Weser. Bremerhaven works as a harbour for North Sea.
Hesse (Hessen): The capital of Hessen is Wiesbaden situated near Frankfurt. The location of the Hessen makes it covering the largest area of Rhine River. It is situated in west central part of the Germany. The main cities which are included in Hessen are Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Offenbach, Hanau etc.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: It is situated in the north part of Germany. Its capital is Schwerin. The state is divided into two parts: one is Mecklenburg and other is Vorpommern. The density of the state is least among all other states in Germany. It is one of the best tourist destinations in Germany.
Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen): It is situated in the north-west part of Germany. It is second largest state in Germany in area and the fourth largest state according to population. It is located near the North Sea. The main cities of Lower Saxony are Hannover, Brunswick, and Oldenburg etc.
Berlin:
The capital of Berlin State is Berlin City. It is the country's largest city and also the capital of Germany. It is the largest city of the country. It is the second most populous city of the European Union. After World War II it was divided into East and West Berlin.
North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen):
It is the west most part of Germany. It is most populated state of Germany. The economic output of this state is largest among all other states in Germany about 22% of GDP. The capital of this city is Dusseldorf. The main cities are Cologne, Dortmund, Bonn, Munster, Paderborn, Essen etc.
Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz): The capital of the state is Mainz. It was included in Germany in 30 Aug 1946. Rhine River is the biggest river of the state. Eifel, Taunus and Hunsruck etc. mountains lie in the state.
Saarland: The capital of the state is Saarbrucken. The area of this state is smallest among all states of Germany except city states (Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg) of it. The population of the state is mainly Catholic. The name of the state is after the river Saar. It shares the border with France in west and south. The major portion of the state is hilly and covered with forests.
Saxony (Sachsen): It is situated in the eastern part of Germany. The population of the state is sixth largest among all other states. It is tenth largest in area among all German states. Its capital is Dresden.
Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt):
Its capital is Magdeburg. It is eighth largest state of Germany in area and tenth largest according to population. Its capital is the second largest city in this state after Halle. The main attraction of the city is "Worlitzer Park" which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Thuringia (Thuringen): It is located in the central part of Germany. Its capital is Erfurt. East part of this state contains vast plains. The Harz Mountains divide the state into two parts. The geography of Thuringia includes Thuringian forests, different mountains chains and rivers like Werra.
